The life
of ancestors of late Joseon Dynasty can be grasped through literature, folk
materials, and ancient art. Among them, painting describes the life of
ancestors most realistically. Especially a man’s important
life events are remarkably shown in ancient history figurative paintings,
portraits, and genre paintings. It means that all social criteria were set for
men. Men could not stand firmly in society without supports from devoted, wise
wives and caring, good mothers as a strong platform. Women
were true heroes at the theater of our lives even if they emerged as the
assistants in Pyeongsaeng-do. Women in the late Joseon period had established
their own worlds through their commitments to sacred as well as daily
ceremonies. Through
the exhibition, we intend to speak of the stories of late Joseon women who
lived under the Confucian values of Joseon's feudal society. Through the
stories like a film, we question what their lives mean for modern women who are
enjoying diverse values. We expect
that the exhibition would be an opportunity for modern women to set up their
new role models by reviving the spirit that sometimes the new comes from the
old. Supported by Coreana Cosmetics, Co., Ltd.
