The Coreana Museum of Art (Co-directors Yu Sang Ok, Yu Seung Hee) was opened in November 2003 with the purpose of cultural and artistic sponsorship from the Coreana Cosmetics Co., Ltd., aiming to communicate with the public through art. In September 2006, it was officially registered as a private art museum, and since its establishment, the museum has actively embraced and supported experimental contemporary art under the policy of exploring major contemporary themes. The museum has presented over 80 exhibitions of contemporary art and its collection that illuminate various cultural codes such as body, woman, media, and performance. Since 2017, the annual project *c-lab has been initiated to delve into themes with a long-term perspective through research, exhibitions, education, and archiving, actively exploring the practical possibilities of art.
Recognized for its distinguished activities and achievements, the museum remains one of the most important institutions devoted to modern and contemporary art in Korea with the ‘Art of the Year’ from Arts Council Korea in 2006 and the commendation from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea in 2022.
