*c-lab 7.0 Project X Jun Bokyung Either arms, feet, or tongue 2023. 7. 14. Fri - 7. 21. sat. (4 days) Jun Bokyung, who has explored the reconstruction of the body through the bonding of humans and technology, as well as technical intervention, presents the performance 'Either Arms, Feet, or Tongue' as part of the *c-lab 7.0 project. In 2023, the Coreana Museum of Art *c-lab 7.0 explores the possibility of a 'Media-Body'. We will experiment with artistic methods through which to sense 'the real' that transcends bodily limitations by liberating the media-body that had been locked inside the physical 'body.' In the hope that this attempt would help us broaden our cognitive reach, we aim to open up the meaning of the 'body' to embrace diverse forms. Either Arms, Feet, or Tongue begins by questioning "what is human language" in the context of the relationship between natural language and artificial language created by advances in artificial intelligence in the 21st century. Cyberspace is filled with footless words. The imaginary "horse" that engages in a conversation with someone unknown remains isolated, lacking a face, legs, and a clear beginning and end. However, if the conversation starts with common ground, such as shared experiences, it becomes important that "we" are stepping into the same space as others. In this way, Either Arms, Feet, or Tongue deviates from focusing on "my body," which forms the basis of the human self, and instead contemplates "our body." Could it be that "we" perceive the world in ways beyond the use of arms, legs, and mouth? In this performance, we aim to explore the cognitive processes of artificial intelligence, such as language segmented into small pieces or recognized as spatialized images, and how they are reconfigured when experienced through the human body. A language devoid of arms, feet, and mouth becomes the breath of the performers, creating vibrations that resonate through their lungs and vocal cords, eventually engaging the muscles of their entire bodies as it escapes through their mouths. This vibration transcends the reproductive and verbal value of language and speaks to the bodies of the audience members in a performance space that generates and alters specific situations and actions.

Bokyung Jun works with video and installation to document the changes brought by the human body’s instruments and technology. By way of heterogeneous couplings in places where humans and machines overlap and are out of joint, she explores the human being as heterogeneous beings that are constantly restructured through technological mediation and the new sensations that it gives rise to.

About *c-lab
The Coreana Museum of Art *c-lab is a newly conceived annual project, which seeks to provide a platform where creators, curators, theorists, and researchers in the field of arts and culture conduct research and projects, exploring its annual theme. We have selected new topics every year and considered it as an art practice.
