Fine-tuning Human Senses 파인튜닝되는 신체 감각

Hoonida Kim’s new live performance, ‘Fine-tuning Human Senses’ unveiled in *c-lab 7.0. Kim has been focusing on technology that deeply penetrates through the human ecology, as well as the transformations in ecology triggered by technology. In 2023, the Coreana Museum of Art *c-lab 7.0 explores the possibility of a 'Media-Body'. We will experiment with artistic methods through which to sense 'the real' that transcends bodily limitations by liberating the media-body that had been locked inside the physical 'body.' In the hope that this attempt would help us broaden our cognitive reach, we aim to open up the meaning of the 'body' to embrace diverse forms.

In the past, humans have recognized, sensed, and acquired information through their bodies and tools. Tools have developed to extend and sense human senses more delicately. And we now have a digital extended sense of the body.  It has evolved in the direction of seeing and feeling more by putting on a 'Prosthesis of Senses.' The body equipped with new tools reads and interprets more quickly, but the more it relies on the prosthetics of the senses, the less the power of the body's senses. In other words, the human body does not recognize the environment independently. It exists only as an organ that accepts information, leaving only the eyes, ears, and fingers.

Fine-tuning Human Senses is an attempt to reconsider sense, body, and technology. In technical term Fine-tuning refers to the whole process of deforming and tuning weights finely when learning an artificial intelligence model. Instead of leaving the body as a "tool" in the rapidly developing technological era, the artist emphasizes that the body should be fine-tuned to acquire and reinterpret information.

During this performance, the performer will wear “Datascapes” as an “environmental recognition apparatus” made by Kim, and read the data from the structures placed in c-cube. At the same time, the audience are following the performer including Datascapes, observing their interaction, and finally recognizing sensitively fine-tuned data in real-time. 

At last, Fine-tuning Human Senses is expected to offer the chance of fine-tuning your sense as well as reconsidering to perceive the world through the body.

Hoonida Kim has been focusing on technology that deeply penetrates through the human ecology, as well as the transformations in ecology triggered by technology. Human perception and sensibility fails to track the speed of social change and is unable to sense and analyze the enormous amount of information flooding our society. With such acknowledgement, Hoonida Kim has been producing 'environmental recognition apparatuses' to actively respond to such changes. He has also made unique attempts to directly and indirectly implant these 'environmental recognition apparatuses' to humans.
