Artist Mioon
- Min Kim, Moon Choi Mioon, the artist duo of Min Kim and Moon Choi, has
developed their career in art scenes in Korea and around the world, as being
one of the most representative artists of Korea in the field of media art and
video installation. Mioon – Memory
Theater is the first solo show held in the museum since their return from
Germany in 2006, including nine new works—six object installations including
videos and three video works presented for the first time. Mioon’s video installations since mid-2000s mainly
focused on the social implications of a ‘collective crowd’ while their works
since late 2000s has oriented toward the two key words, “memory” and “theater.”
As far as the artist understands, memory is always incomplete and unstable.
Through the video-installation works the artist reveals such an allegorical
structure of memory that is complicated and unstable, difficult to be grasped
on the whole. Also, the artist reexamines our internalized social memories,
inquiring into the family as a theater of lives and an archive of memories and
signifying the mechanism of releasing repressed memories, as a traumatic recall. Hosted
