from the Latin term 'anima' meaning ‘giving life to’, animation is the work of
creating illusion that lifeless contours and forms move. In the history of art,
there always have been interests in animation, that is to say, a way to
movement. In recent years, contemporary artist utilize animation as medium and
means to expand the domain of expression, this phenomenon is getting accelerated
by media artist since the mid-2000s. Cross Animate not only places animation
in aesthetic terms as it has emerged as a new way for contemporary and new
media art but also highlights interdisciplinary aspect of art animations
directed by animators that cross over different fields. This exhibition, rather
than distinguishing one another, focuses on animation’s aesthetic language,
contemplative manner and contribution to signification in contemporary art. Hosted
